For over a decade, the Scanlon Foundation’s annual Mapping Social Cohesion research series has been unpacking Australian attitudes towards social cohesion issues like immigration, multiculturalism and trust in government. This research is distributed through a report, website and launch event to communicate its key findings to stakeholders across community and government sectors.
The visual identity for Mapping Social Cohesion 2023 is made up of a grid-like arrangement of coloured squares and rectangular shapes forming pixel-like motifs. Underpinning the concept of unpacking population data, these motifs have been superimposed around black and white photography of a mix of people and buildings to depict the digital buffering of information.
Using a restricted colour palette of black, white and grey with the addition of a bold blue, the design conveys a sense of trustworthiness regarding the research, whilst a modern sensibility looks to the future.
